I come from a long line of master cabinet makers and have had a distinguished career as an engineer. My combination of centuries-old craftsman techniques coupled with the rigour of a professional engineering background has resulted in some incredible new designs.
I meld innovative and contemporary shapes and forms with the beauty of Britain's woods to celebrate the vibrancy of our island home.

My workshop
Hand tools
I use hand tools for all 'fit and finish' actions. In this case a modern low angle jack plane is squaring off an oak timber prior to slitting into individual lamp slats.
Jigs and fixtures
This is a 'shooting board' and is by far the best way to get a reliably square edge.
Hand tool usage in this fashion is quiet and doesn't produce lots of dust.
Planes
Many of my tools are made by myself. In this case there is a long smoothing plane in the background, a jack plane in the centre, a 'Krenov smoother' in the foreground next to a router plane. I use Hock blades for the best finish.
Wood grain
This 'raking light' view shows the fantastic grains patterns of the wood I use. A key advantage of the hand tool process is that it brings out the stunning figure of the wood.
